The Practice of Self-Care: A Softer Approach to the Ghosh Lineage

January 23-28 or 23-30, 2016
Cat Island, Bahamas
Fernandez Bay Village Resort

Join Tiffany and Monica on a retreat  approaching the Ghosh Lineage from a softer angle to learn and practice how to use the yoga to care for yourself inside and out!

Most yogis know of the Ghosh lineage through the practice of Bikram’s Hot26 Series.  When you hear or think of Birkam yoga most think hot, sweaty and intense.  There is truth to this as many who are drawn to the Hot26 practice often begin their yoga practice with the intention of physically pushing themselves to new limits.  There are benefits and limitations to this approach to the Ghosh lineage.  Those who stick with the practice come to understand this with time.

You will practice the traditional order of the beginner Ghosh sequence beach front, so there will be less heat, a sweet ocean breeze and the sea instead of a mirror in front of you.  This retreat is perfect for those who were ever curious about the Ghosh lineage but afraid of the heat; perfect for those looking for a softer therapeutic practice; perfect for the hardcore hot yogis out there to learn more about their practice!

Begin each  day with a 2hr practice at the Wandering Spirit Yoga Cabana, only 150ft  away from the waters edge. Tiffany and Monica will take turns teaching this class and whichever one is not teaching will be practicing along side you.  The practice will focus on alignment and more the subtleties of each pose.  You will feel poses differently by learning to notice your breath and body in a pose more acutely.  Don’t be surprised if Tiffany and Monica approach differently poses you already know.  Remember this retreat is about self-care and learning to adapt poses possible known to you to be more therapeutic.  After class there will be time to ask questions, look at specific poses in your body, or just watch and listen to others.

Afternoons take an even more gentle approach integrating more pranayama (breath) and dyana (meditation) practice, which leads to diving deeper within yourself and your practice.  For those who may have little or not experience with pranayama or dyana practice fear not!  This is a safe place to begin to learn about the practice and dabble in it yourself.  There will again be time for questions after this session.

Ultimately the goal is to guide you to have a deeper conversation with yourself about your yoga practice.  Everyone’s journey will look a little different as we travel down the path of self-care together.

Additional Activities and Excursions

A little fun fact: Tiffany grew up on Cat Island and loves to share her knowledge into the culture and history of the island and its people.  As a result, she can help you immerse yourself into real island life especially with the 3 excursions she has planned for you.  You will hike to the highest point in the Bahamas; Mount Alvernia, for a breath taking view of the whole island.  Four wheel it to the other side of the island and take a dip into the Atlantic Ocean or perhaps partake in a little body surfing or snorkeling.  Head to the northern tip of the island and roll around in pink sand, stop by bat cave and enjoy taking in the real Bahamas.
